The Transportation Engineering program focuses on improving the transportation infrastructure through planning, design, operation and management of facilities and services.  Students are encouraged to develop interdisciplinary programs by  supplementing core courses with electives from several related fields. UVA offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in transportation engineering. The graduate transportation engineering program is centered around two tracks:

Transportation Systems Engineering and Management. This track prepares students in the areas of transportation operations, transportation planning, transportation safety, intelligent transportation systems, public transportation, and inter-modal transportation.

Transportation Pavements. This track is offered jointly by the University of Virginia and the Virginia Transportation Research Council. Students have the opportunity to work closely with research scientists from VTRC, as well as VDOT field engineers involved with pavements design and evaluation.
