STS 215 - Technology and the U.S. Civil War Explores the various relationships between technology, broadly speaking, and the U.S. Civil War. While the course includes an examination of such things as military strategy and tactics, logistics, industrial output, and armaments, it will focus on the cultural and organizational context for wartime technologies, as well as their cultural and organizational consequences. In addition to mastering the thematic content of the course, students will have numerous opportunities to improve listening, analytical, writing, and oral communication skills through short papers and a longer research project.
