Degree Requirements


Master of Arts


Concentration in Composition and Computer Technology

Students are expected to complete a minimum of 36 credits of graded coursework, including four semesters of private composition instruction.

Students are expected to create two substantive works to be performed and evaluated by the faculty, one by the conclusion of the second semester and another by the conclusion of the fourth semester.

Students are expected to submit an article-length paper demonstrating analytical and critical abilities by midterm of the fourth semester.

Concentration in Critical and Comparative Studies

Students are expected to complete a minimum of 36 credits of graded coursework, including MUSI 7511 (Introduction to Music Research) during the first semester and up to nine credits outside the department.
