Prerequisites for Declaring the Minor
Students must complete the following course before declaring the minor: Program Requirements
- SPAN 3010 - Finding your Voice in Spanish Credits: 3
- SPAN 3300 - Texts and Interpretation Credits: 3
- One survey course (3400s)
- One other course at the 3000 level.
- Two courses at the 4000 level. (three courses at the 4000 level if the student has placed out of SPAN 3010).
Only courses taught in Spanish and with the “SPAN” prefix can count toward the Spanish minor. Students may count up to nine hours of credit earned in an approved study abroad program toward their Spanish minor for a complete year of study abroad, and six hours of credit for one semester of study abroad.
The restriction to nine hours does not apply to coursework done in UVA’s Hispanic Studies Program in Valencia. Since those courses earn UVA credit, they are considered interchangeable with courses taken in Charlottesville.
