The department, in conjunction with UVA Hispanic Studies in Valencia, Spain, offers a Minor in Business Spanish consisting of six (6) courses in addition to an internship or attendance at business symposia in Valencia. Three of the courses (two of which are required), as well as the internships and symposia, are only offered in Valencia. Only courses taught in Spanish and with the “SPAN” prefix can count toward the Business Spanish minor.

One prerequisite and 6 additional courses (18 credits).

Prerequisites for Declaring the Minor

Students must complete the following course before declaring the minor:

SPAN 2020 - Advanced Intermediate Spanish Credits: 3

Program Requirements

Students must complete the following courses:

SPAN 3010 - Finding your Voice in Spanish Credits: 3
OR
SPAN 3300 - Texts and Interpretation Credits: 3 (Charlottesville & Valencia) (if the student places out of SPAN 3010).
SPAN 3040 - Business Spanish Credits: 3 (Charlottesville & Valencia)
One of the following:
SPAN 4710 - Latin American Culture and Civilization Credits: 3 (Charlottesville & Valencia)
SPAN 4700 - Spanish Culture and Civilization Credits: 3 (Charlottesville & Valencia)
Two of the following:
SPAN 4040 - Translation from Spanish to English Credits: 3 (Charlottesville & Valencia)
SPAN 4050 - Economy of Latin America Credits: 3 ** (Valencia)
SPAN 4705 - Spanish Mass Media Credits: 3 (Valencia)
SPAN 4713 - Economy of the European Union Credits: 3 *(Valencia)
* This class includes a business symposia or internship.
** The prerequisite for this class is SPAN 3040.
