Degree Requirements


Master of Science


Of the 30 credits required for the degree, students are expected to complete a minimum of 24 credits of graded coursework, including a minimum of six credits of ASTR 9995 - Supervised Research .

Students are expected to submit a report on their research performance to a faculty review panel at the end of each semester. 

Students are expected to pass an oral qualifying examination at the beginning of the second semester.  

Doctor of Philosophy


Of the 72 credits required for the degree, students are expected to complete a minimum of 24 credits of graded coursework. 

Students are expected to pass an oral qualifying examination at the beginning of the second semester and an oral qualifying examination at the beginning of the fourth semester.

Students are expected to complete all requirements stated above by the conclusion of the fourth semester.

Students are expected to write and defend a dissertation.
