Leadership in Human Resources Management

Return to: School of Continuing and Professional Studies: Programs/Courses

Complex organizations spend a significant amount of capital on employee development and retention. Organizational success is determined to a large extent by how well employees are recruited, trained and rewarded. Many of today’s senior managers and leaders will be leaving the workforce over the next 5 to 8 years calling for a significant push to identify and develop future leaders who will successfully guide organizations through the 21st century.

The Certificate of Leadership in Human Resources Management provides the essential knowledge and skills needed by staff professionals to succeed in human resources management positions. The 15-credit certificate (5 courses) focuses on the principles and concepts of group and team behavior, leadership roles, importance of organizational vision, values and ethics, assessing and capitalizing on human resources, and managing scarce resources in today’s complex organizations.

This hands-on program is ideal for human resource management professionals in the early to mid-level stages of their professional development as well as career switcher professionals seeking to transition to the human resources profession. Typical students are working professionals who have completed a bachelor’s degree, work in the field of human resources management, and are ready to assume greater responsibilities in their organization. Typical career switcher students are working non-human resources professionals from a range of backgrounds, for example, teachers, lawyers, business and finance professionals. Completion of the human resources certificate demonstrates evidence of specialized educational achievement in human resources management.
