Master of Arts in Italian
Admission is Suspended for this program.
The M.A. program in Italian consists of 30 hours, or 10 courses, no more than three of which may be Non-Topical Research done in pursuit of the M.A. thesis. Coursework must be completed within two years or four academic semesters (an extension for a fifth semester can be granted for a valid reason), and must include the pedagogy course ITAL 8210, at least two period courses, at least two seminars, and no more than two 5000-level courses. One course may be taken outside the department. The master’s examination (based on the program reading list) includes two 3-hour written examinations and a 1-hour oral examination. Students also write a master’s thesis which must be approved by two graduate faculty members. Virtually all M.A. students serve as teaching assistants in elementary language courses supervised by the language coordinator.
