Program Overview

Students who focus their studies in IT gain exposure to a wide range of emerging technologies, while ensuring the basic competencies required of all practitioners. Graduates have found career opportunities as instructional designers, interactive developers, information architects, training and technology coordinators, and change/process management specialists in business, industry, education, and government. Others go on to become university faculty members.

Degree Requirements

The EdD program requires a minimum of 72 credits, including 48 credits of coursework, 12 units of internship practicum, and 12 credits for the capstone project. At least 36 course credits must be completed after admission.

Students entering the doctoral program with a strong, applicable master’s degree can apply up to 24 hours of credit to their doctoral program, provided that the program area faculty judge that the courses are sufficiently comparable to substitute for courses offered in the doctoral program.

Students in the Instructional Technology EdD can complete the program in three years of full-time study, or on a part-time basis over additional years.
