Master of Arts in Italian
The M.A. program in Italian consists of 30 hours, or 10 courses, no more than three of which may be Non-Topical Research done in pursuit of the M.A. thesis. Coursework must be completed within two years or four academic semesters (an extension for a fifth semester can be granted for a valid reason), and must include the pedagogy course ITAL 8210, at least two period courses, at least two seminars, and no more than two 5000-level courses. One course may be taken outside the department. The master’s examination (based on the program reading list) includes two 3-hour written examinations and a 1-hour oral examination. Students also write a master’s thesis which must be approved by two graduate faculty members. Virtually all M.A. students serve as teaching assistants in elementary language courses supervised by the language coordinator. |
