The Mathematics Education Program offers degrees at the masters and doctoral level. An applicant to the Masters of Education (M.Ed.) degree programs must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university as well as meet other requirements for admission to the master of education degree program. An applicant to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programs must hold a master’s degree and be prepared to complete required course work in 1) mathematics education, 2) relevant disciplinary areas of mathematics, 3) research methodology, and 4) seminars offered by the Mathematics Education faculty.

Mathematics Education
The M.Ed. degree program offers in-depth preparation for secondary or middle school teachers of mathematics. This degree option offers opportunities for individuals to develop greater understanding of educational research and policy in mathematics education. The Ph.D. degree program with a mathematics education concentration prepares educators to pursue research agendas related to mathematics education either in university settings or at research-and-development centers, agencies, or organizations. Ph.D. candidates are also prepared to become mathematics teacher educators at a university or college level. Prospective students in the Ph.D. program must have a master’s degree in mathematics or mathematics education and at least two years of teaching experience. |
