Overview
The Interdisciplinary Biophysics Graduate Program at the University of Virginia provides students with a strong foundation in molecular biophysical approaches and analyses through innovative research, didactic coursework, and regular meetings to discuss the literature and each others research. This program has a strong focus in the areas of structural biology, membrane biology, cellular biophysics, and computational biology. The Biophysics Graduate Program is one of the oldest in the country.
Faculty
The Biophysics program comprises the research and teaching facilities of more than 40 faculty members distributed over 13 departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of Medicine. The graduate program is designed to allow a maximum degree of flexibility so that students with varying backgrounds can be prepared to investigate the broad range of problems encompassed by Biophysics.
Students
The students in the Biophysics program have a broad range of background with undergraduate degrees in many different areas of biology, technology, physics, chemistry and engineering. Biophysics offers an established training program that emphasizes performing high-quality, innovative, original research. Our graduates move on to academic or industrial post-docs, directly into academic or industrial positions, or to allied science professions.
