ENGN 881 - Reason and Sensibility in the Novel First of four courses, each of which may be taken independently, surveying major issues and terms in the history of the novel. Studies the relation between aesthetic and intellectual concerns of the period ca. 1750-1820 and the development of forms and techniques. Texts are drawn from English and Continental fiction. Authors include Diderot, Goethe, Richardson, Scott, and Sterne. (IR)
