LAW 9347 - Religious Freedom: Current Challenges Effective Date 08/01/2023 This seminar analyzes current issues surrounding the First Amendment freedom of religion. It covers historical, philosophical, and judicial background, current issues in free exercise and establishment clause doctrine, including government funding of religion, “corporate” religious liberty, the future of Employment Division v. Smith, conflicts between religious freedom claims and anti-discrimination law/norms, and government religious speech.
Credits: 3 Grading Basis Graded Requisites LAW 6001 is required as a prerequisite. Students who have previously taken LAW 9064, can’t enroll.
