SOC 4740 - Sociol Persp on Trauma, Atrocity, & Responsibility Effective Start Date: 02/08/2011 Scholars have characterized the 20th century as an epoch of trauma and atrocity. Previous epochs were brutal also, but the nature of brutality and our vocabularies with which to understand it have been transformed dramatically over the last century. This course explores events (e.g. holocaust, genocide, atomic bombings) and institutional factors (e.g. media,law,philosophy) that have transformed our sense of vulnerability and our responses to it.
Prerequisites: 6 credits of Sociology or permission of instructor
