EALC 5120 - Words and Images in East Asian Sacred Texts This course explores the role of words and images in East Asian religious literature, by focusing on influential Buddhist and Daoist scriptures. In this context, we will assess both the way pictures are written about and texts rendered in visual forms, as well as their interactions. Ultimately, we will also tackle issues of representation relevant to study of China, Korea and Japan from both a historical and conceptual perspective.
