BIOL 3600 - Natural History of the Appalachians We will explore the habitats that make the Appalachians a unique hotspot for North American biodiversity. We will learn how geology, species interactions, and land-use patterns shape the composition of ecological communities. Field studies near Mountain Lake and trips to other habitats will emphasize field identification, ecological relationships, and conservation issues relating to a wide range of organisms.
