ANTH 5495 - Discourse Prosody Discourse prosody looks at intonation, rhythm, meter, and voice quality in everyday speech, developing descriptive and theoretical models for the systematic study of these linguistic phenomena. The course emphasizes instrumental analysis and focuses on how prosody: varies across dialects and languages; functions in spoken interaction; and affects structures of social life (identity, hierarchy, etc.).
