LAW 9121 - Supreme Court and Criminal Law This seminar will focus on the role of the Supreme Court in establishing general doctrines governing the scope of substantive criminal law including statutory interpretation principles, retroactive decision-making and the meaning of fair notice, the constitutionality of guideline sentencing schemes, and constitutionally imposed proportionality limits as they apply to the death penalty, prison sentences, and fines.
