CHTR 5820 - The Modern Chinese Essay

Readings from major Chinese essayists of the 20th century in the English translation. Chinese texts will also be available for interested students. Discussion of genre and literary history, literary relationship between tradition and modernity, language and style. Students enrolled in the5000 level of this course will be required to use some Chinese language materials as well.
