HIUS 6008 - Reconstruction: The Promises & Perils of American Citizenship
The course will examine the reconstruction era and explores how definitions of citzenship were crafter, debated, and tested in the turbulent aftermath of the Civil War. Particular attention will be paid to social and political worlds African Americans (especially those in Virginia) envisioned and created during the period.
