WGS 3450 - Presenting & Representing African-American Women 20th C. Visual Arts Through the twentieth century, African-American women challenged gender constraints on their political, social and economic rights. This course explores the role of the visual arts in reinforcing and countering images of African American women’s identity. We will examine women in visual art, architecture, film and popular culture within the context of cultural, political and social change.
