PLCP 4111 - States and Markets The course begins with an introduction to texts of classical liberal political economy and then examines both historical and theoretical scholarship on the emergence of markets in Europe from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. A revisionist view of the role of the state in the emergence of markets then informs a consideration of contemporary cases.
