WGS 4150 - Feminism and the Public Sphere The idea of the public sphere is central to contemporary Western democracies. It is the “space” where citizens exchange ideas and form opinions, and from which these citizens can shap government. What would a more inclusive vision of political participation and communicatoin look like? In attempting to build an answer, we will examine a number of works on communication ethics, politics, media, with an emphasis on feminist and queer scholarship.
