EDIS 711 - Vocal and Non-Vocal Communication Designed for teachers, therapists, and other professionals who implement communication programs for persons with moderate to severe disabilities or for preschoolers with disabilities. Current research and teaching practices are addressed, focusing on appropriate assessment strategies and tools; non-symbolic communication; augmentative and alternative communication systems; functional assessment; naturalistic teaching approaches; and collaborative teaming between teachers, parents, and speech, occupational, and physical therapists. Students design, implement, and evaluate an individual teaching program. (E)
