MAE 703 - Injury Biomechanics This is an advanced applications course on the biomechanical basis of human injury and injury modeling. The course covers the etiology of human injury and state-of-the-art analytic and synthetic mechanical models of human injury. The course will have a strong focus on modeling the risk of impact injuries to the head, neck, thorax, abdomen and extremities. The course will explore the biomechanical basis of widely used and proposed human injury criteria and will investigate the use of these criteria with simplified dummy surrogates to assess human injury risk. Brief introductions to advanced topics such as human biomechanical variation with age and sex, and the biomechanics of injury prevention will be presented based on current research and the interests of the students.
