Return to: Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy

Batten Asian Alliance (BAA)
BAA seeks to create a dedicated network that fosters academic and career success for Asian students within the Batten School and beyond. Members of this organization partner with Batten Student and Career Services to host Batten alumni panels and speaker-series where current students can seek career guidance and expand their professional network.

Batten Graduate Council
The Batten Graduate Council represents the needs and interests of Batten School students. It helps to enrich their academic experience by encouraging community outreach, student leadership, special events, and professional development activities. The Council also provides opportunities for interaction among students, faculty, and alumni to foster a strong culture and close-knit Batten community.

Batten Latinx Network (BLN)
BLN cultivates a community-based space for Latinx students to share resources and support one another throughout their time at Batten.

Black Student Leaders in Policy (BSLIP)
BSLIP was founded to advocate for more diversity within the School. This organization provides resources and networks for prospective and current students of color.

Formative Change Group Consulting (FCG)
FCG is a student-led organization that offers both undergraduate and graduate students hands-on, real-world, consulting and project management experience. FCG students partner with community-engaged, mission-driven organizations (often non-profits) in the Charlottesville area. Members of this organization learn from these organizations about their work and offer support and assistance on semester or year-long consulting projects.

Language in Policy (LIP)
LIP is a Batten organization dedicated to helping students maintain and strengthen their second language skills, while discussing different policy issues/topics.

Omicron Circle, Omicron Delta Kappa (O∆K)
Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, recognizes and encourages superior leadership and exemplary character. O∆K encourages collaboration among members across the five phases celebrated by O∆K: scholarship, athletics, service, communications, and arts. Founded in 1914 at Washington and Lee University, O∆K honors and develops leaders through scholarships, workshops, career opportunities, leadership resources, and a lifelong connection to other members. UVA’s Omicron Circle was established on May 28, 1925.

PRIDE (Policy, Rights, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity)
PRIDE partners with faculty and staff to create opportunities to promote and discuss policy affecting the LGBTQ+ community.

Virginia Policy Review (VPR)
The Virginia Policy Review publishes student articles about international, domestic, and regional public policy issues. Founded by the first MPP class of the Batten School, its primary purposes include focusing the university community’s attention on current public policy issues, providing UVA students with a journal of well-researched, readable policy analysis, and offering both undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to improve their writing, editing, and research skills. Each year, the Virginia Policy Review publishes two full issues (Winter and Summer), as well as a special topical issue each Fall. Additionally, the Virginia Policy Review hosts graduate policy journal staff at an annual National Journal Conference to discuss best practices for policy-related academic publications.

Women in Policy (WiP)
The mission of WiP is to bring together men and women to discuss policy topics that directly relate to women or topics in which women have a vested interest. WiP seeks to create a community of trust and understanding among one another to foster better understanding of policy topics through formal meetings and community building events. WiP also provides a mentor/mentee program for public policy interested individuals in addition to career insights from Batten alumni within our network.
