Prerequisites
Before declaring the dance minor, students must have completed or be enrolled in at least one dance course.
Requirements Dance Minor - Total Credits: 20
Students majoring in a wide variety of disciplines elect to pursue a minor in Dance. The Dance program is designed to offer students broad exposure to dance as an investigative, expressive, and collaborative field of study. Through practical and theoretical applications, the program emphasizes the value of dance as a form of creative practice and research that supports the development of critical thinking skills, self-awareness, and the ability to deal effectively with ambiguity. The Dance program offers dynamic, transformational learning experiences that provide students with skills to successfully navigate contemporary issues with confidence and socio-cultural awareness.
Each semester students are provided opportunities to cultivate critical thinking skills and hone their creative and movement practices through choreographing and/or performing in student, faculty and guest artist work for program concerts. To graduate with a minor in Dance, students must complete 20 credits of academic coursework. No DANC course graded C- or lower may count towards the minor. Students are required to take 4 credits of Movement Practice courses that can be repeated for credit. Students are required to take two courses in Creative Process (6 credits), one course in Critical Studies (3 credits), one course in Movement Studies (3 credits), and 4 credits of Elective courses. These courses provide students with an opportunity to delve into specific areas of interest within dance theory, practice, production/design, and other related areas in Music and Drama. Note that a student may not use the same course to satisfy more than one requirement. For instance, a student may use DANC 3400 (Dance and Culture) to satisfy either an elective requirement or a critical studies requirement, but not both.

Creative Process - 6 credit hours from the following:
Critical Studies - 3 credit hours from the following:
