McIntire Business Institute (MBI)

McIntire Business Institute (MBI) was founded in 1982. This program gives holders of non-business degrees a working knowledge of business practices. Current students, graduates, and working professionals benefit from this high-value program that is designed to deliver fundamental business theory and practice to those with little or no business background. This outstanding program includes courses in accounting, finance, management and marketing that serve as sound preparation for careers in business and industry, and also serves as a useful first step in exploring post-graduation business studies. In addition to the coursework, participants also receive personalized career counseling including resume preparation, interview skills, and job seeking advice. Upon completion, students receive a certificate of completion, and those with exceptional participation receive awards for outstanding achievement. Currently, the following versions of MBI are offered:

Certificate in Business Fundamentals

  • Academic Year: Offered August to April; Meets every Friday at Rouss Robertson Halls, 11 a.m. - 1:45 p.m.

  • Summer Residency: Offered late May to late June at Rouss Robertson Halls; Meets Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.

  • Online Program: A 15-week program with starts in January, May, and September.

Certificate in Sustainable Business

  • Online Program: A 15-week program with starts in January, May, and September.

Certificate in Cybersecurity for Business Leaders

  • Online Program: A 12-week program with starts in January, May, and September.
     

Enrollment and Withdrawal

Students are enrolled in the UVA Student Information System (SIS) and will be able to see MBI on their UVA transcript. Please note that MBI follows the University’s withdrawal and refund schedule. Withdrawing after the second week of the program begins triggers the schedule and you will be responsible for a percentage of tuition.  You will also receive a W (withdrawn) on your transcript for MBI. Withdrawals must be sent in writing to the MBI program manager in order to initiate the process with UVA.
