Reading Specialist Certificate

The Reading Specialist Certificate is offered for teachers who already hold a master’s degree in education; it requires 30 credits of graduate coursework as prescribed by the state for the K-12 reading specialist endorsement. Virginia’s reading specialist endorsement requires an initial teaching license, 30 hours of coursework in an approved reading program (either masters or reading specialist certificate after a master’s degree), and the completion of three years of teaching during which teaching of reading was a primary responsibility.
