Requirements for Major
Students electing psychology as their major subject are required to take PSYC 1001 (before declaring the major), and to have an overall grade of C or better in Psychology 1001 and a minimum 2.000 GPA for all courses completed in this department. Students are also required to take at least 30 credits in psychology at the 2000-level or higher including PSYC 3005, 3006. PSYC 3005 is a prerequisite to PSYC 3006. To ensure breadth, the major program must also include at least one 2000-level course from each of the following three groups: (1) PSYC 2100, 2150 and 2300; (2) PSYC 2200 and 2220; and (3) PSYC 2400, 2700 and 2600. In addition to these 6 core courses, the psychology major must include at least six credits of advanced course work in courses with numbers higher than 3006. At least three of these six credits must be at the 4000- or 5000-level. (Research in Psychology, Directed Readings in Psychology, and Internship, do not count towards the six credits of advanced course work). A grade of C or better is required in all Psychology classes to be counted toward the major. A 2.000 GPA in all Psychology classes is required to complete the major. Requirements for Minor
Students electing to minor in psychology are required to take a minimum of 16 credits at the 2000 level or higher and must include at least three credits of course work at the 4000 or 5000 level (excluding internship, directed readings, research in psychology, and PSYC 5290). The minor’s program must also include PSYC 3005 and 3006. To declare a minor, a student must have successfully completed PSYC 1001. In addition a grade of C or better is required in all Psychology classes to be counted toward the minor. A 2.000 GPA in all Psychology classes is required to complete the minor. Distinguished Majors Program in Psychology
Outstanding majors with an overall GPA of 3.400 may apply at the beginning of the sixth semester. The program includes a thesis (PSYC 4970 or 4980) and additional course requirements. Additional Information
