The UVa Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program is designed for individuals with exceptional academic records who have not fulfilled their pre-medical prerequisites as an undergraduate and seek the science background to apply to medical school and a future career in medicine. This full-time, twelve month program’s focus is the education and immersion of students in the pre-medical science curriculum, the medical field, and medical practices and related opportunities. Topical medical practices as well as volunteer and paid medical-related experiences will acquaint students with the medical field in preparation for the MCAT entrance examination and medical school admission.

Post Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program - Curriculum

The program curriculum engages students in the pre-requisite science education necessary to apply to medical school, as well as to prepare students to sit for the MCAT examination. The program is completed in one year of study, beginning with the summer sessions, followed by courses in the fall and spring semesters. In addition, topical seminars for students to further explore significant medical topics are scheduled throughout the year, as well as MCAT preparatory opportunities are offered during the spring semester.  Opportunities for mentoring, interning, and engaging in volunteer experiences are also built into the program. Pre-med student study groups are available to reinforce classroom and laboratory education.

The core Post- Bac Pre-Med curriculum includes an established series of science courses and labs that are required for application to medical school. This includes a sequence of biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics courses, along with associated labs.
