ANTH 395 - Archaeology of Gender, Sexuality, and Power This course is designed to provide an exposure to gender issues in anthropological archaeology. How did ancient cultures conceptualize and represent gender differences and sexuality? What was believed about women and men? Was gender an organizing principle in ancient cultures? What kinds of social roles did people assign to different genders? Archaeological case studies will be examined from ancient
Egypt,
Mesopotamia,
Greece,
Rome,
North America and
Mesoamerica. These case studies will illustrate what archaeologists can learn about gender and power in the past through analyzing the artifacts and sites of the archaeological record.
