CE 4820 - Introduction to Finite Element Methods Basic concepts of finite element analysis. Weighted residual (Galerkin) approach and variational (Rayleigh-Ritz) approach. One-dimensional and two-dimensional formulations; local vs. global coordinate systems; shape functions. Computational implementation and applications in the areas of structural analysis, steady-state fluid flow, and heat transfer. Prerequisite: CE 3300 or MAE 3310.
