RELJ 3615 - Joseph, Esther, Daniel: Biblical Novels The finest narratives in ancient Judaism—stories about Joseph, Esther, Daniel—describe an exiled hero, who delivers his or her people against all odds; related literature includes Ruth, Tobit, Judith, Joseph & Asenath. This course examines the literary, historical, theological significance of these works and common themes: exile, restoration, extraordinary women, coincidence, human agency, the remote deity, the vindication of the underdog.
