BIOL 856 - Biodiversity in the Southern Appalachians

This two-week intensive course on the habitats and organisms of the Southern Appalachians teaches students how historical processes and current land-use patterns shape the compositions of ecological communities. Field studies near Mountain Lake and trips to other habitats emphasize field identification, ecological relationships, and conservation issues. The course meets every day. Students must be able to hike in rugged terrain and be willing to work in adverse weather. (SS)
