PHS 581 - Introduction to Epidemiology


This course is an introduction to the methods of epidemiologic and population-based clinical research.  Students begin to learn both how to understand and interpret epidemiologic and population-based clinical research and how to conduct such research.  Topics include forumlating a hypothesis driven research question, assessing study results, choosing appropriate study designs, selecting optimal sources of data, collecting and analyzing data, controlling bias and confounding and interpreting study results.  Class sessions are primarily case-based, participatory, and appropriate for health care professionals and residents.  The course will meet for two weeks, July 30 through August 10 from 0900 to 1100 and 1300 to 1500.
