EDIS 287 - Reading, Writing, and Reasoning

Reading, Writing and Reasoning for College Students is a three-credit-hour course in the expectations that govern college academic life and the development and application of study skills appropriate to academic work at the University of Virginia. Its purpose is to assist students in making the transition from high school to college. Toward that end, the lectures and readings for the course contrast “getting an education” with participating in a learning community, being recipients of information with being pursuers of knowledge, and academic passivity with scholarly activity. The assignments provide opportunities to acquire the skills and practices of effective college students.
