LAW6 668 - Intellectual Property: International Patent Law and Policy Patents figure in a variety of disputes in our global economy and this trend is likely to continue. This seminar provides an opportunity for a student to write a paper on an aspect of international or comparative patent law or policy. Topics to be explored include: differing world views of patent-eligible subject matter (e.g., patents on human cloning and computer software); issues in multinational patent litigation and forum shopping; the continuing controversy between developing countries and developed countries concerning TRIPS requirements, access to genetic resources/traditional knowledge protection, and further harmonization efforts; and the relevant multilateral treaties (e.g. Paris Convention, Patent Cooperation Treaty, TRIPS, and the European Patent Convention) currently in place and impediments to true global patent harmonization.
Prerequisites & Notes Prerequisite: Intellectual Property: Patent recommended (or concurrent), but not required.
