LAW5 647 - International Human Rights Law Clinic

This semester-long clinical course will give students first-hand experience in human rights advocacy under the supervision of international human rights lawyers. Projects are designed to give students practical experience with the range of activities in which lawyers engage to promote respect for human rights; to help students build the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective human rights lawyers; and to integrate the theory and practice of human rights. Each student will be expected to work on two projects. Class sessions will provide the opportunity to discuss human rights law concepts and lawyering practice, and the legal, strategic, ethical, and theoretical issues raised by the project work. The clinic will also provide instruction in and development of international human rights law research and writing skills. There is no live-client representation in this clinic.
