ECE 642 - Optoelectronic Devices This course is based loosely on the optoelectronic devices that are utilized in fiber optic transmission systems. Fiber optic technology relies on optoelectronic devices to generate, amplify, modulate, switch, and detect the optical signal. In this course we develop the fundamentals of semiconductor lasers, semiconductor and fiber optical amplifiers, optical modulators, photodetectors, wavelength multiplexers and demultiplexers, and optical switches. Additional non-fiber related topics include light emitting diodes for displays, imaging arrays (UV, visible, and IR) and solar cells.” (Y)
