ISSS 319 - American Political Government

The course will examine the development of the American political order from the colonial era to the present.  In recent years, political scientists and historians have become reengaged in lively debates and innovative ways to study and rethink what we know about patterns of political stability and change in the United States.  In fact, for these scholars and their students, this new approach to understanding American political history is commonly referred to as “APD.”  Over the course of the semester, students will critically examine several recent books and articles with the hope of gaining new substantive insights about American political development in addition to a fuller recognition of the variety of analytical methods that scholars now employ to give force to their works.  (IR)
