EDIS 503A - Assessment and Programming for Infants: Birth to Age Three

This course covers assessment and programming for children birth through age 3 who are typically developing, at-risk, or have identified disabilities. The first half of the course addresses theories of child development and typical and atypical development as well as federal mandates and state regulations related to assessments for Part C programs. Students learn to select, administer, and interpret formal and informal assessments to identify the strengths and needs of infants, toddlers, and their families. The second half of the course addresses: a) service delivery options for infants and toddlers, b) selection of age-appropriate materials and equipment, c) curriculum development and implementation in the areas of self-help, motor, cognitive, social/emotional, and language, and d) IFSP development, implementation and monitoring. Particular attention is given to understanding the theories and techniques of family-centered and culturally responsive intervention as well as to methods for collaboration and consultation including service coordination, interagency coordination, and transition planning.
