 Deadline:  5:00 p.m., 30 days before arrival.

Summer Session housing is available from May 13, 2012 after 4:00 p.m. until August 4, 2012 before 5:00 p.m. There is a three-week (21 days) minimum stay required for all reservations, and you must be enrolled in Summer Session courses for the duration of your stay.

Please note that you must be 18 years of age and/or currently enrolled for fall classes at U.Va. and have graduated from high school to live on Grounds during Summer Session. For additional terms, see the Summer Session Housing Agreement.

Accommodations

Students registering for Summer Session Housing will stay in air-conditioned, hallway-style double-occupancy rooms in the Balz-Dobie and Watson-Webb buildings in the Alderman Road Residence Area, located near the intersection of Alderman and McCormick Roads.

Residents will need to provide their own bed linens (size extra-long twin). Housekeeping will replenish bathroom supplies and clean and sanitize common areas and bathrooms Monday through Friday. Residents are responsible for removing their own trash from their rooms to the nearest dumpster.

Meal Plans and Parking

Housing & Residence Life does not arrange dining, meal plans, or parking for Summer Session residents. However, meal plans are available for Summer Session students through Dining Services (982-5110) and parking is available through Parking and Transportation (924-7231).

Reservation Forms

To make a reservation, please submit the Online Reservation Form. We are unable to accept reservations by email, telephone or fax. Summer Session Housing charges will be billed to your student account. Charges are based on the number of nights, at $23.00 per night.

All roommate requests must be mutual and cannot be guaranteed. Please keep in mind that room changing will only be allowed under extreme circumstances and if appropriate space is available.

Check-In/Check-Out

Keys may be picked up between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. for Session I, or between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on all other scheduled arrival dates, at the Accommodations office.

All students must vacate their housing by 11:00 a.m. on the day indicated on your reservation form, or 5:00 p.m. if you are departing on August 4, 2012. Keys must be returned to the Accommodations office; for security reasons we cannot accept any keys mailed to the Accommodations office after check-out. There is a late stay charge of $100.00 per day for any student who does not vacate his or her room by the deadline. No one will be allowed to stay past 5:00 p.m. on August 4, 2012.

Cancellations

Housing & Residence Life must receive notification of cancellations by email to housing@virginia.edu at least one week (seven days) prior to the scheduled arrival date in order for you to receive a refund, less a $50.00 cancellation fee. If notification is received less than seven days before the scheduled arrival date, you will be charged a $100.00 cancellation fee. There is no refund for cancellation requests made after check-in.

The notification email should include your name, scheduled arrival date, scheduled departure date, desired departure date (if cancelling only a portion of your stay) and reason for cancellation.

Lockouts

If you are locked out of your room between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30p.m., Monday through Friday, you may call the Facilities Service Desk (434-924-3053), and staff will be dispatched to assist you. You MUST have a picture ID (student ID, driver’s license, state ID or military ID). If you do not have your ID, you may bring another student to vouch for you, but that student must present his/her student ID.

If you are locked out after these business hours, your call will automatically be forwarded to U.Va. Systems Control, and an emergency call-back person will be dispatched to your location. The same ID requirements pertain. There is a $100 fee for after-hours lockout service. If you have questions about lockout fees, please contact the Assistant Director of On-Grounds Housing in the Accommodations Office.
